Fredrick could hear Sara trying to reason with Michael and he gave Eve a cruel smile. “It seems your best friend doesn’t believe you’re who you say you are. Maybe you should turn your attention to her instead of concentrating on Michael.” Eve shook her head, “This isn’t what I signed up for a year ago. I don’t want to give my ‘gift’ to Sarah. Never did. I only want Michael. Always have. If what you say is true about Sarah and Michael, then you should understand why I don’t want to include Sarah. Why can’t we just take Michael and leave? He’s completely willing. Leave Sarah. She’s a wet blanket anyway.”
Fredrick shook his head, “No, Eve. That’s not how this works. When you showed yourself to Michael ahead of schedule, and while he was with Sarah I might add, you jumped our timeline and made it so that you had to give the ‘gift’ to the both of them. If one should decide not to accept your gift, you know what will happen. Her soul will go a long way to tipping the scales to our favor. It’s time our side saw the upper hand.”
Eve considered Fredrick for a moment. She knew the alternative if one of them said no but she didn’t want to think about it. She really did only want Michael. Having Sarah with him had been a rather unhappy accident.
“I understand how important it is to you that our side sees some wins, Fredrick. But Sarah isn’t going to agree to any of this. She’s too much of a goody-goody. She won’t do it, not even for Michael. And I don’t want to lose Michael again.”
Fredrick pursed his lips and gave a slight nod, “We shall see, Eve. We shall see.”
