Blurb:
Welcome to Petrified City, where the dead don’t stay in the ground.

Ten years ago, an accident at the city chemical plant leaked toxins into the soil of the historic Brookwood Hill Cemetery. From the poisoned ground emerged the wraith – ghosts of the long dead who gorge on the energy sucked from the city’s dwindling population. Desperate to contain the threat, the government enclosed the city in a giant dome, trapping the wraith and the residents inside.

Now, there’s almost nothing left.

Sydney Cale – a thief with a strange and secret power – attempts to escape from the city’s jailers, only to find herself facing off against the wraith. She teams up with Alain, a raven shapeshifter who is a member of the Order of the Reapers, a powerful force who work to banish the wraith back to the underworld. Alain agrees to protect Sydney and her friend Diana in exchange for her help. She must enter the Citadel – the wraith compound in the center of the city – and steal back his kidnapped daughter.

But what Sydney finds inside the Citadel will change everything. The wraith are evolving, drawing energy from the decaying city itself. Soon, they will be powerful enough to break free of the dome. Sydney and Alain must stop the wraith before they escape and infect the world, even if that means dooming themselves, and everyone they love, to petrifying inside the dying city.

Excerpts:

    Excerpt #1:
I raced across the street and down another alley, then turned right and vaulted over a stack of overflowing trash cans. I landed hard, my left foot rolling on the heel. Pain surged up my leg. Ignoring it, I sprinted between the two high rise apartment blocks, their glass windows smashed, the once pristine whitewashed walls cracked and crumbling to dust—becoming petrified, just like the rest of the city.
Outside the safety of the high rise buildings, I darted into Cromwell Park. This was an overgrown patch of brown grass, disused flower beds, and graffiti-strewn park benches that lined the shores of the river that wound its way through this part of the city. Here, on open ground, the wardens would have ample opportunity to shoot me down. But if I could make it through, I could lose them by the river.
On cue, a bullet zinged and ricocheted off the edging of a garden bed to my left, spraying me with concrete dust. I cried out and bolted for the bridge, sliding down the edge of the riverbed, my boots clattering over loose rubble.
Keep going. You’re nearly there.
The warden behind me blew his whistle, calling for more backup. He probably thought he had me cornered, but he didn’t know that beneath the bridge was a tunnel that led under the streets back toward the Rim. It was part of an old network from the prohibition where shopkeepers would secretly transport their illicit goods down to the water to be transported on to the next city where they would fetch a high price in the speakeasies. The riverbed had long since dried up, the flow diverted around Petrified City by those outside. But as of three months ago, before I was sent to prison, the tunnel was still intact.
The entrance to the tunnel was disguised beneath an overhang of rock and obscured by thick weeds. I pushed them aside and slipped down into the gloom, pulling the weeds back over to hide the hole. I left just enough of a gap that I could watch the path leading under the bridge.
I crouched down and listened. Footsteps crunched by outside, growing louder, and then fading again. Faintly, I could hear the wardens barking orders to spread out and search along the bank.
“She can’t have gone far,” one of them growled.
The footsteps were joined by at least two others, but those, too, faded as they searched for me further up the riverbed.
Safe for now. I let out my breath and sucked in the damp air of the tunnel, waiting for my heartrate to return to normal. That was close. Now, to get back to Diana before they decide to search my place—
I turned and came face to face with a wraith.
Fuck. Not safe. Not at all.
The wraith hissed from the shadows, the faint outline of its translucent skin and the glow of its eyes my only clue to its exact form and location. Its mouth hung open, revealing a deep abyss of nothing but shadow and terror.

Excerpt 2:
I lurched forward, and the tunnel exploded.
Orange flames leapt along the walls, surrounding me with fierce heat. The force knocked me to the ground, driving the wind from my chest and sending pain through my limbs. The wraith screamed, this time with terror, as the flames danced over them, tearing at whatever ethereal substance made up their bodies. Their mouths gaped as flames consumed them, turning their emaciated limbs to piles of dust.
From the shadows, a raven flew down and landed on the ground at my feet. It watched the flames as they consumed the wraiths, standing silent until every last speck had been turned to grey dust. It lifted a wing, and the flames flared up, reaching right to the tunnel roof. I stepped back, holding up my hands to shield my face from the heat.
When the heat began to fade and the flames died away, a man stood in the centre of the tunnel. He was dressed in black from head to toe—black jeans, black t-shirt, and a long black trenchcoat that swung around his ankles. In the gloom of the tunnel, his hair appeared black also, falling around his face in long waves and spilling down over his broad, muscular shoulders. A line of stubble defined his strong jaw, and he stared at me with piercing, ice-blue eyes and a thin-lipped smirk.
He was absolutely gorgeous, and if I weren’t at that moment still recovering from a near-death experience, I might have considered throwing myself into his arms and showing him just how grateful I was for his timely intervention.
Thankfully, I had some self-control. Well, that and the fact this man was a Reaper—one of the race of ancient raven shapeshifters who ferried the souls of the dead from this world to the next. The Reapers had always worked quietly in the background, their Order and work unknown to most people. But here in Petrified City, not even they were safe from the wraith. They were the only people who had weapons that could slow the wraith down, and they could do what this Reaper had just done and reap the wraith back to the underworld … although the ghouls never stayed dead long. The Reapers were our last line of defense, the only thing standing in the way of the wraiths completely taking over Petrified City. They were also judge, jury, and executioner in the city, and they didn’t much tolerate petty thieves like me flouting the few laws they bothered to police. With my luck, this Reaper would put me on a one-way ride back on the prison bus.
If it wasn’t my lucky day, well … I was wraith food.
“Love the flames. Very dramatic. I had it all under control, though.” Great. I always got sarcastic when I felt threatened. And this Reaper was definitely a threat, maybe a bigger threat than the wraith he’d just killed.
“You were lucky,” he replied, his deep, throaty voice resonating in the long tunnel. “These wraiths were seconds from turning you into a husk. They must be desperate to be hunting during the daylight like this. You okay?”
“I can manage.” I got to my feet, my body screaming in pain. I dusted off my prison overalls, realizing too late that I’d just drawn attention to them. Not only was I sarcastic, but sometimes I was a real idiot.

When danger meets desire, only the strongest survive.

Joanie’s dream has always been to give something back. Shubert, the kitty cat love of her life was her first rescue, and she was bound and determined to make volunteering at the Saving Furry Lives Shelter part of her reality. Joanie rescues a wolf pup and it bites her, setting off a chain of events she doesn’t anticipate. Appearances can be deceiving and some bites are much worse than their bark.

Dr. Royce Buchanan is a doctor tired of the dating scene. While the women he’s met through Shifting Hearts Dating Agency are lovely, he wants a mate to settle down with. So far all he’s found are a lot of clingy women with doctor fixations. He’s been burned one too many times before and prefers to get his kink on at Ventures, a local BDSM club catering to shifters. But when an injured woman shows up in his emergency room and his wolf goes on high alert, his safe world is about to go up in flames. Someone is gunning for shifters and to keep this new wolf safe, Royce might have to break his own cardinal rule and get involved, even if it could cost him his heart.

Hi there! I’m Erzabet Bishop and I write erotic romance of all kinds. Thanks for this opportunity to share my book, Waking Up Wolf in the Coming in Hot box set and help my readers get to know a little bit more of the real me.

Tell us about your title featured in this set:
My title is called Waking Up Wolf and it has taken me about two weeks to write it. The title stems from a series called Shifting Hearts where shifters of all kinds find their mates.

Tell us something about yourself:
By day, I am a questionably mild mannered *snort* bookstore manager who lives just outside of Houston, Texas. I’m married with a pack of furry kids that rule my world. I write under three names, and under the Erzabet Bishop name I am an award-winning, international and bestselling author.

Tell us about your writing process:
My writing process starts with a legal pad. I make notes and from there go to a sticky pad. The plot points are then arranged and rearranged until the story flows the way I want it to. I also use Pinterest to capture the essence of what the story will become.

What is your favourite genre to read?
Paranormal romance, urban fantasy and contemporary romance. I also love teen books.

What would you say is the one thing you are most passionate about?
That is a tie between my writing and my dogs. My husband and I have made a home for several rescue animals and I believe very strongly in giving an animal a forever home and a place they can feel safe. I love my dogs like children, my blind muse of a pup, Taddy in particular.

My writing is a passion as well. I want to some day be able to write full time but that will only happen if I continue to push myself. Girl’s gotta have goals. J

When you are not writing, what do you like to do?
I love to snuggle with my puppy and read, watch Netflix (Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black, Breaking Bad…) I also love to try new restaurants with my husband when he can pry me out of my writing chair.

Warmth pooled low in her belly, desire for the man in front of her derailing her already addled senses. Joanie blinked and tried to get a grip.

She’d just had a sex fantasy about her doctor and he was standing inches away from her.

Maybe she had fallen on her head. Hard.

She glanced away but as she did so, she caught the erection tenting Dr. Buchanan’s trousers before he shifted his white coat to shield it from view.

     Well now…

Maybe she wasn’t the only one affected by their close proximity. She didn’t go around sleeping with strange men, however, doctor or not.

But judging by the sizable protrusion, she could climb that bad boy and roost for awhile.

That would be some great physical therapy as far as she was concerned.

Trying to be serious, Joanie cleared her throat.

“And will you be, um, accompanying me for this physical therapy?” Joanie said slowly. All fantasies aside, she wasn’t going anywhere. Not until someone told her what the hell was going on. She watched enough true crime shows. People didn’t get taken out of hospital beds and loaded into SUV’s in the middle of the night without something very wrong going on.

At least, she thought it was night.

She eyed the cup on the bedside table. Did they put something in the water?

“Come on. We have to go.”

“No.” She shrank against the pillows, trying to make it as difficult as possible. God… where was the call button? She frantically searched the wall and tried to reach it. She struggled against them and Nina grabbed hold of her arm.

“Come on, Joanie. Cooperate, please. The man who came after you has friends. We need to get you and the others to safety before he comes looking for you.”

     Man who came after me?

     Why couldn’t she remember?

     “No.”

“Get out of the bed, or the nurse and I will do it for you.” Dr. Buchanan considered her, eyes blazing with challenge.

He was such an arrogant bastard. So why did she want to pull him on top of her and fuck him until they both couldn’t walk?

Gah. She was losing her marbles. One by one. Gone.

     “I'm not going anywhere.”

     There. She said it again.

     “Nina, get the sedative.”

     Shit.

Cecilia’s Five Favorites

Hey, y’all, I’m so excited to be here! I was told I needed to figure out five favorite things, so I decided to try and do something a little bit different than the usual. So, here we go:

Favorite meal of the day – lunch!
Perhaps as a child I was influenced by Weird Al Yankovic’s early classic “Girl Just Want to Have Lunch.” It’s the perfect meal of the day. Don’t feel like real food? Have breakfast, call it brunch, and claim to be all fancy on Instagram! Can’t decide whether you want to have caffeine or alcohol? No problem – have both! No one’s going to be judging you unless you’ve brought beer into McDonald’s. And hey, if you have brought beer into a fast food joint, I salute your determination to embrace the noncommittal nature of this meal, especially if you then order breakfast.

By the way, I really like breakfast, too, and I’m not above having a mimosa whenever I can.

Favorite weather – bring on autumn!
If you live in the Southeast U.S., you know it’s been a really hot summer, even for us. I have naturally curly hair, and it has its own ideal range for humidity separate from the rest of me. This summer has definitely tightened my curl to its limit. The funniest was after going for a long run in Florida on a recent vacation. Yes, my husband convinced me to go on a long run while on vacation. I’ve never seen my hair curl as tightly as it did that morning. If I’d been wearing a hat, it would have popped off. Ugh, that was miserable – blazing sun, humid as anything, and no breeze.

Oddly my favorite weather still involves a lot of moisture in the air. I love cool, cloudy days with a breeze and the occasional mist. It’s perfect for all of my favorite things – napping, writing, reading, napping, drinking warm or alcoholic beverages while watching the mist, napping, and sometimes running if I’m in the mood for it. I missed my geographical calling – I should’ve moved to the Pacific Northwest.

Favorite thing to procrastinate with – playing around with graphics.
I almost said Facebook, which is connected, but I’ve been trying to not let unnecessary negativity into my mental space. So, graphics! I think they relax me by allowing me to use a different part of my brain. I live in the world of words for both my careers, so it’s nice to get a break and do something different.

Why don’t you see more graphics from me? Well, I didn’t say I was good at them. I’ve just gotten a trial for Illustrator. Wish me luck. I may disappear down the Adobe rabbit hole and never emerge. Deadlines, what deadlines?

Favorite kind of pen – anything narrow and ball-point.
I thought I’d stick something writerly in here. I love the Pentel RSVP pens, specifically the narrowest ones. They’re great for writing and doodling, which I do during webinars and lectures but not client sessions. I can’t doodle during session – I use electronic health records, which makes it hard.

My husband asked me once if I write my novels during session while pretending to take notes. I told him no, but really, would I admit it if I did?

As for why ball point, I just can’t do the felt tip thing.

Favorite sport – sleeping.
As you’ve probably guessed by now, I love to sleep. If you don’t think sleeping is a competitive sport, you’ve never been at my house on a Sunday morning. No, I’m not inviting you for brunch, although I’m sure that would be lovely. I don’t typically watch sports, and if I’m going to compete, it’s going to be something I’m good at. I’m a reluctant runner but a champion sleeper.

And if you do show up for brunch on a random Sunday morning, I won’t make fun of you for being pretentious. Just don’t come over too early, and be sure to bring mimosa fixins. It’s hot out.

Former model and heartbreaker Kyra Ellison is accustomed to making trouble, not being on the receiving end. When she’s kicked out of her family’s Ozarks cabin where she's been taking refuge - okay, hiding - after a wicked ancient syndrome wrecked her old life, she's forced to go to Salem, Massachusetts. Yes, that Salem, where a murder, witches with secrets, and handsome billionaire make danger irresistible. Kyra finds she's not the only one with secrets and skeletons in her family closet, but some are more deadly than others. A confrontation with ancient danger and a new foe forces her to choose between the old life she's been craving and the new love that might make everything worth it in the end..

A moonbeam found its way through the blinds and speared me awake at around three o’clock. I rolled away from it, but my movement was echoed by a thud downstairs. I sat, all senses alert, and heard a scratching sound like boots scrabbling in sand.

I pulled the T-shirt I’d slept in over my head just before my hands curled into paws. My fingernails turned into claws, and the change came on from my extremities. It felt like I curled inward and folded into shapes no human body should endure. The fur itched as it pushed through pores I hadn’t had before, but I couldn’t control my paws enough to scratch it.

The final thing to change was my face, and that was the worst sensation, of someone taking my nose and pulling so hard it brought my skull with it.

Then the pain stopped, and a sense of strength, grace, and deadliness unfurled like a flag in my middle and filled me with purpose. To my wolf eyes, the room seemed awash in daylight—not moonlight—and my lips curled.

There was an intruder in my house, and I wanted to tear him or her apart.

No tearing apart, I reminded myself. Not unless I want a visit from that nice policeman later.

I jumped off the bed with as little noise as possible and slunk into the hallway and down the stairs. My fur was the same color as my hair—almost black—so I knew I would blend into the shadows.

Whereas the sulfurous smell had dissipated to my human nose, it was still very strong and present to my wolf nose. But that wasn’t what made me stop, all fur on end, when I turned toward the front hall. The sand I had stepped in glowed an opalescent blue, and I saw it was in a circle shape about three feet in diameter. I could see the panes of the front door through the ghostly figure that struggled in the middle of it.

My wolf brain, eminently practical, noted that I couldn’t do anything about a ghost because it wasn’t solid enough to be afraid of me, so I should just turn around and go back to bed.

But then I heard my name.

My ears perked up, and I moved closer, sticking to the darker patches. Why was the ghost calling my name? Was it a deceased family member visiting for the Festival of the Dead? What was I supposed to do about it?

“Kyra, where are you? I’m trapped. I just want to talk to you.”

The ghost pushed against some sort of invisible barrier. When I got close enough to make out its features, I gasped, which came out as a canine huff.

Jared Steel was the ghost trapped in the circle.

“What are you doing here? Are you dead?” I didn’t know if he would hear my mental voice, but he spun around.

“Where are you? I can’t see you.”

“I’m right here. It’s nighttime. Why are you here in my parents’ house? Are you dead?”

“No, I don’t think so. I think I’m dreaming.” He looked at his hands and grew more solid. I moved out of the shadows to sit in front of him, and he tried to back up, but he bounced against the back of the circle.

“Kyra, wherever you are, go! There’s a wolf.”

He looked so bewildered I wasn’t sure whether to laugh at him or comfort him. I still didn’t know whether he was dead, but I suspected not. If some wolves could spirit-walk, then I supposed some humans could, too.

I did want to know who had made a binding circle in my foyer, but I guessed it wasn’t my confused astral projection house guest.

And if he was projecting while he was asleep, I could have some fun. My instincts told me he didn’t realize he had this ability and would just write all this off to a strange dream in the morning.

As he came more into view, his attire resolved itself into shorts and a tight-fitting T-shirt that hugged the muscles of his upper arms, shoulders, and chest. Dark hair showed above the rim of the v-neck collar, and I licked my lips at the sight of his lightly fuzzed and nicely shaped legs.

Yes, Jared Steel was quite nice out of his work clothes, and I found myself disappointed that he didn’t sleep naked.

Cecilia Dominic wrote her first story when she was two years old and has always had a much more interesting life inside her head than outside of it. She became a clinical psychologist because she's fascinated by people and their stories, but she couldn't stop writing fiction. The first draft of her dissertation, while not fiction, was still criticized by her major professor for being written in too entertaining a style. She made it through graduate school and got her PhD, started her own practice, and by day, she helps people cure their insomnia without using medication. By night, she blogs about wine and writes fiction she hopes will keep her readers turning the pages all night. Yes, she recognizes the conflict of interest between her two careers, so she writes and blogs under a pen name. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with one husband and two cats, which, she's been told, is a good number of each. Her debut novel The Mountain's Shadow, an urban fantasy featuring werewolves with a scientific twist, was released in October 2013, the sequel Long Shadows will be out in March 2014, and she has been offered a contract by Samhain for the third in the series, Blood's Shadow. She also writes young adult fiction and won the 2011 Mystery Times Ten contest through Buddhapuss Ink with her YA fantasy mystery The Coral Temple.
